ScoutShipSeparate is an informally patented jumpdrive technology created by User:A.
How it Works
A jumpdrive ship using ScoutShipSeparate will have a large main structure and a smaller section in the center (originally 3x3x3, but it could be bigger, as long as it is smaller than the main structure) that has enough functionality to jump safely on its own, but not much more. The user could then decrease the jumpdrive radius so that it only includes this center section, then jump this center section to an unfamiliar area to scout ahead. After they have found a suitable place to land with enough room for the entire ship, they then jump the smaller scout ship back inside the main ship, then increase the radius and jump the entire structure.
Patent Rules
User:A's patent does not require royalties, but when using ScoutShipSeparate, one is to put a sign on the central scout section that says "Using patented ScoutShipSeparate technology by Professor A." UPDATE: The patent rule has been revoked, because User:A is a small-brain wimp who does not deserve a patent.
