Blockhead: NOW IS OPEN

The Mars East Line is a railway line from Mars Station east to Mars Mountain Town (as yet unsettled). The Red Rock Express passenger service operates on the line stopping at the four stations on the line.

History
Approval for the project was given on circa 2021-12-15 by BuckarooBanzai. Construction began after sorting out area access. The right of way was filled out over the next week or so between Mars Mountain Town and the existing Mars Train Tube. After that the tube was connected to the outside and made into a T-junction.

After finishing the right of way, the stations were completed. First was Mars Mountain Town, including a rounded tunnelling digtron. Afterwards was The Gap which is the first diagonal station known to Blockhead on Pandorabox, completed between 2022/01-01/2022-01-03.

The project was completed on 2022-01-04 with the completion of Bellona Plain (renamed from Ares Plain as Ares Station is a well-known spaceport). The inaugural train carried 4 passengers: Blockhead, Baijin and DKFeniks on the way there, then Huhhila also showed up for the return trip back to Mars Station.

Future
The line is unlikely to be extended for some time. It has paved the way for future Mars development and Blockhead would like to do other things. Also the land east of Mars Mountain Town is mostly unexplored except for one trail of mapblocks.

Construction
The route is a normal surface railway without oxygenation, at least for the time being. Passengers need space suits for travel. The route proceeds east from Mars Station, from the existing short railway there, first east then southeast to a gap in the mountains. From the gap it travels first almost due east for a while, then turn southeast, and finally back to straight east and terminates under the mountain. Slope is quite minimal, so only two bridges are in place needed and the only tunnel is directly beneath the mountain. The track is ballasted with gravel cascading sideways, with higher mounds of gravel or retaining walls for some harsher slopes that do not quite need a bridge.

Apart from the stations, the two red rusty metal bridges were another quite intensive part of the construction of the line. Check them out if travelling by on foot!

The route is only single track, with passing loops at the stations. If further construction occurs and makes the East Line a mainline, more duplication can be added as needed.

Stations
The project added 3 new stations. All stations are oxygenated inside and use stealthnodes to keep air in while letting trains pass through.

Mars Central
The station was originally built a long time ago (when) by BuckarooBanzai and saw no services until the Red Rock Express began service. It is made of prefab concrete floor with black metal walls and ceilings and huge dark glass windows.

The Gap
The first diagonal station on Pandorabox to Blockhead's knowledge. Made of plastic and glass walls, red and yellow stained glass. Situated between two rocky hills in the 'gap' between them. Has a pedestrian overpass.

Bellona Plain
Named after Bellona, Roman goddess of war, since Ares was a well-known spaceport with a travelnet. Made out militaristic green metal blocks and stone bricks, with dark glass windows. Has a pedestrian underpass.

Mars Mountain Town
Buried deep underneath a red rock plateau in a town that was never actually settled. Tiled with red sandstone and silver sandstone blocks. Has an elevator as well as stairs.

Affected stakeholders
The right of way travels close to these individuals. Any area access was approved by admin before Blockhead built there.

* admin/BuckarooBanzay - Mars station. Needs to give access to link to the existing station.
* Unknown: Tall building in valley, tracks pass just north of it. Not protected, owner unknown. Might have been there for years, permission probably not needed?
* Arsk: Immediately off the existing tracks in Mars Station, as it starts to go east. Last-login: 2019-09-20. No visible structure above ground, justprotectors. Offline for a very long time, also hasn't touched the surface, so can probably arrange access.
* Kosha: Large building, tracks pass just south of it. Last-login: 2021-12-02. Should be asked to approve since they are recently active.
* Thimli: Travelnet, mine site just north of the tracks, on the west side of the desert sandstone mountain gap. Last-login: 2021-12-06. Active player, but also, doesn't seem to intend to settle. Probably do not need to ask permission.
* gummybear: Huge land claim east side of the desert sandstone mountains. Nothing notable above ground. Can this claim be reassessed downwards? Last-login: 2019-09-24.
* LittleFire: Mining outpost on a hill near where the track turns from generally east to generally southeast. Not that close, I don't think permission is needed. Last-login: 2021-09-03 though structure appears older with area ID 2043 (current is 13500ish).
* korlen: Owner of the travelnet at Mars Mountain Town and Olduvai. Last-login: 2021-08-12. Not sure if permission needed? I have already built an oxygenated room there and the station is deep underneath the surface plateau. Also the travelnet always seemed like an invitation to settle.

:Not online at the same time as me? It's only natural, I'm in the Australia/Sydney timezone, UTC+10/11. Drop me a message on here or by /mail.

Hi, I'm a bit newer than most around here, having only started playing in November 2021. I have a lot of experience from other servers with advtrains (especially advtrains also in singleplayer) but also digtron, technic (forked), pipeworks, digilines/luacontroller and ethereal mapgen (not used on this server).

I like trains and dislike teleports - especially travelnet - and I want to see Pandorabox's railways improve. I have a wealth of experience with designing and constructing railways including right of way, bridges, cuttings, tunnels including the use of digtrons. I also have a lot of experience interlocking, making signals with routes for automatic operation, and running passenger train services. I have this experience from another server plus a bit of singleplayer testing. I will be using my skills for my own projects but I really want to make it available to the wider community through Technic City Trains and Pandorabox Railway Company.

My first goal on this server was to get the Technic City train system, "Technic City Trains" working with 1 metro line and 1 S-bahn line, since the tracks were already there. This was completed on 3 December.

My other longterm goal to build a railway on Mars. So far I plan on building the Mars railway from Mars Spawn to either Viking Base (if permission is granted) or Mars Mountain City (never actually built).
Goals
SX had idea about learning how to use advtrains properly while connecting all significant old railways together to form larger <s>personal playground</s> public network and started working on it as a personal project.

Connect existing railways to larger public network fixing broken rails, routes, stations and protections while getting towards ultimate goal.

Main railways should be protected with protect_streets privilege in the end. Protecting station areas using this privilege should also be considered.

2021.04.15 || NullPointer || Built new small railway station for Starter Town. Started planning options for Fruitland connection.
2021.04.17 || SX || Started new tracks from Space Elevator towards New Town railway stations, built new small regional station in New Town and started looking route for railway towards larger New Town station complex.
2021.04.18 || NullPointer, SX || Finished railway between Space Elevator and New Town main station complex.
2021.04.19 || SX || Finished TCBs and route for R trains between Minigames Hub and New Town main station. Test trains running between Minigames Hub and New Town station complex. Decorated New Town station complex a bit in process.
2021.04.20 || SX || Added signal, routes and subway train with 2 cars for New Town station shuttle line. Train is running between lower regional station and upper main station.
2021.04.20 || NullPointer || Added railway turnout at west of Starter Town station, reserved for Starter Town - Fruitland railway.
2021.04.21 || SX || Added temporary station route to Little Siberia station (up in railway bridge) to turn around non SB trains. Removed all routes, TCBs and signals from station area and created those again to not send trains out as shunt move and fix incorrect switch positions. Found one track with TCB assigned but no TCB actually anywhere, fixed by dissolve section command.
Reconfigured train IC2 (Japan engine + 4 passenger wagons) to run Minigames - Space Elevator - New Town - Little Siberia - New Town - Space Elevator - Japan Town - Forbidden City - Minigames line. Being IC train it will only stop at major stations.<br/>Another train called "Route testing" is running similar route, this is just engine without any attached wagons. Trains use * routes for most parts of line.
2021.04.21 || SX || after 2 trains entered same route and section from signal at . Trains were most probably set inactive when this happened, started trains again. Did not investigate any further.
Update: Investigated situation better and found that there was no influence point set for signal. Configured influence point, .
2021.04.22 || SX || Added signals, TCBs and first routes for Cross Correlation Station at and LIX (no idea what it means) trainline intersection . Bumpers blocking Cross Correlation Station has been removed and station is open. Routing is incomplete and still requires driver to set routes at LIX intersection. Verified that trains can run between Cross Correlation Station and Locko's station through both Fruitland and direct railways.
2021.04.23 || SX || Planned railway connections for A Town and reserved area for A Town railway station at near Mesecons tutorial area. Reserved area is about 55 x 33 x 33 (north side) and 55 x 22 x 22 (south side).
This allows building direct connection to center of world (just about 300m away) and from there to Minigames (dual tracks already in place) forming large loop with main transfer stations at: A Town → Center of World → Minigames → Space Elevator → Starter Town → New Town → Little Siberia → A Town.
2021.04.23 || NullPointer || Extend Starter Town - Fruitland railway 500m North
2021.04.25 || SX || Finished A Town station turnouts to be usable, station building still requires a lot of work decoration and such. Finished railway bridge between A Town and Center of World.
Added TCBs, signals and routes through Little Siberia, A Town, Center of World and Minigames.
IC2 trainline running through multiple large stations: Minigames Hub > Japan Town > Forbidden City > Space Elevator > New Town > Little Siberia > A Town > Center of World > Humboldt Recearch -> Minigames Hub.
2021.04.26 || SX || Repaired and protected small part of old Starter Town - New Town railway (edit. finished repairs and protection after few days), this connection is inactive but being direct connection it is planned to be fully restored, connected to New Town main station and will serve as primary New Town - Starter Town route.
2021.05.01 || SX || Expanded Starter Town station turnouts area, some single rails replaced with dual rails. To the south towards new station area full dual rails and towards west bit more space and longer queue area for depart/approach sidings. Protected some tracks and old station approach area.
2021.05.11 || SX || Starter Town - New Town routing nearly done: missing signals, track sections and routes created. Added few more station routes for A Town railway station. Routes created from Center of World to A Town and one R train running Forbidden City - Minigames - Center of World - A Town returning through same stations in reverse order.
2021.09.13 || SX || Fixed Little Siberia S-line collisions caused by missing route section at .

Stations
Active stations
Minigames Hub, this is where it started and was central hub for first test train lines while getting familiar with advtrains mod.

Little Siberia, this was first connection from Minigames Hub.

Forbidden City / Tagada Road, new railway was built to connect Minigames. Multiple trains stops at station including IC2 which has been used for seconds stage IC route testing.

Japan Town, rails were already built by 6r1d, int and various other players. Replaced misplaced protection blocks with privilege protectors.

Space Elevator, waypoint while building railway connection towards New Town and Starter Town where older and more complete public railway networks can be found.

New Town, connection point to multiple existing railways. IC2 and another test train (R train) stops at station. One station shuttle line active at station complex.

Upper Little Siberia, station up at railway bridge and is not directly connected to Little Siberia city/regional railways. Test trains running from/to New Town station. IC2 runs through station towards A Town.

A Town, new station built by SX. Single train, IC2 stops at station approaching from New Town and departing towards Center of World. Train runs long route so it is not suggested to sit there waiting for it.

Listing does not include smaller S or R line stations.

New stations without usable routes available
Starter Town, station is built but does not yet have return routes and is dead end. (!) Departure towards old Starter Town station has invalid track sections with routes set up. Multiple public (broken, no interlocking) railways continue from there.

Train Schedules
What? Trains say beep beep and go, if it left already then you're late.

Routing codes
Common routing codes for trains, these should not be used for other purposes without good reason and taking into account that many trains in public railway network might have these routing codes.

Code !! Focus !! Description
SS || Stations, restrictions || (S)tation (S)huttle. SS trains should stop at transfer stations. SS trains should stay in restricted station complex area.
S || Stations, restrictions || (S)uburban. S trains should stop at all stations. S trains should never be allowed to leave town area or cross city borders.
R || Stations || (R)egional. R trains should stop at all stations.
IC || Common routing || (I)nter-(C)ity. IC trains should pass small stations, if possible routed through fastest route through city and only stop at large main railway stations.
SB || Stations || Train can directly return to approach direction from dead end station without turning train around in shunting area or dedicated loop.

New routing codes
Common routing codes that should be added:
* Code for freight trains.
: Freight trains should not normally enter stations meant for passenger traffic if it can be avoided.
* Code to enter next available maintenance area.
: To decommission/deactivate train special routing code should make it follow other routing codes until it hits station with large maintenance area and park train there.
:
: Routing code "Shunt" is available at some stations managed by PRC but this should be changed, this will probably also need some LuaATC automation to pass maintenance areas without enough space for approaching train.
* Routing codes for large multi way turnout intersections to set route based on approach direction.
: Routing codes for turnouts have been in test use for Minigames Hub and Upper New Town. Routing codes are $ID.N-W where ID is short identification code for affected area, N is approach direction and W is depart direction.
: For example in $MGH.S-E route MGH stands for Minigames Hub, S for south and E for east so trains approaching Minigames Hub intersection from south will be routed toward east and routing code does not affect any other turnouts. <br/>Dollar is added to clearly distinguish these routing codes from other routing codes.

Players participating to the project
* User:SX started project to learn advtrains keeping low profile until Space Elevator station was mostly done.
* User:NullPointer joined to plan and build forward connection from Space Elevator towards Starter Town and Fruitland.
* User:Blockhead joined to contribute to more working trains!. Has a lot of interlocking and operational experience, and an eye to right of way upgrades. He is dissatisfied with the construction standard and the lack of active train services.
* Everyone can join project to make railways better, add your name to the list.

Technic City Trains (TCT) is a railway operator in the greater Technic City area. Its authority is delegated by BuckarooBanzai to Blockhead for the purpose of building railways and stations and operating trains in the area. Kermit is also a helpful contributor. It operates two lines and will co-operate with PRC to ensure any regional connections.

Services
TCT operates two lines: The U1 metro line and S1 local train.

The U1 line operates two kinds of services: Clockwise and anticlockwise. The stations (in clockwise order) are have the names: Tardis, Workshop, Beach and Excavation. In Stage 2, clockwise services are proposed to stop at a new station at Technic City Harbour, which is between Excavations and Beach. Anticlockwise services will go straight from Excavations to Beach. Future metro lines will have a stop spacing of around 100-150 metres.

The S1 line operates out of a terminal track at Tardis station and stops at Brickhouse and Snowy End. Future local lines will have a stop spacing of around 400-600 metres.

Right of way
The TCT network constitutes a central ring line around the centre of Technic City and a short local railway line that leaves the city going southwest and then west. It was constructed by BuckarooBanzai possibly with help from others.

The central ring line is entirely elevated, a la the Chicago "L". The viaduct continues southwest out of the city and ends just before Brickhouse Station, then starts again as the terrain falls into the ocean going west. Track spacing varies from 3 to sometimes just 1 node between tracks. In future 3 node spacing should be preferred.

Signalling and operations
TCT operates trains on the left hand side (left hand traffic). The freedom of choice was given to Blockhead by BuckarooBanzai, so Blockhead chose his preference as an Australian. This also means that signals are preferred to be located on the left hand side of the track that they apply to where physically possible; in some cases it is better for driver vision to place signals not in line with the general rule.

TCT uses a mix of wallmounted signals and Ks signals. The wallmounted type are preferred for the metro services whereas Ks are preferred for local trains. A signal gantry design that uses green nodes from bridger is used on the local line to Snowy End, which looks surprisingly close to real German signalling installations (left-hand traffic notwithstanding).

On metro lines signals have a spacing of around 50 metres and on local lines around 100 metres.

Rolling stock
TCT only has a small roster of rolling stock due to the difficulty of acquisition with complicated recipes. At beginning of operation it has 2 subway wagons, one for each direction on U1, and one 3-car Japanese train for S1.

History
TCT was founded on 23 November 2021 after Blockhead volunteered to operate trains in the area after noticing there was a decent amount of right of way already in place. Authority was quickly given to allow him to work on the railway. The protections were surveyed and major access issues resolved by BuckarooBanzai.

The S1 line was in operation by Friday 26 November but its opening was not announced and signage was not yet complete.

TCT officially opened services on 3 December 2021. Two Subway wagons were provided for U1 by Kermit, and the S1 was already operating with Japanese wagons bought from admin shop. Station signage and a the passenger services map were completed on this date. Mapserver blocks were also added although they look rather rough since the mapserver draws straight lines instead of nice polygons.

Future
TCT does not yet have plans to extend or build new railway lines. There is a hope to extend U1 to Technic City Harbour in future, but this is conditional on permission from Ruggila.

A larger central station for Technic City needs to be planned in order to prepare for an increase in the number of services, whether local or regional and operated by TCT, PRC or others. A site is not yet identified.

Technic City Trains (TCT) is a railway operator in the greater Technic City area. Its authority is delegated by BuckarooBanzai to Blockhead for the purpose of building railways and stations and operating trains in the area. It operates two lines and will co-operate with PRC to ensure any regional connections.

Services
TCT operates two lines: The U1 metro line and S1 local train.

The U1 line will operate two kinds of services: Clockwise and anticlockwise. The stations (in clockwise order) are so far proposed with the names: Tardis, Workshop, Beach and Excavations. In Stage 2, clockwise services are proposed to stop at a new station at Technic City Harbour, which is between Excavations and Beach. Anticlockwise services will go straight from Excavations to Beach.

The S1 line will operate out of a new third terminal track at Tardis station and have a stop at Brickhouse, and later in Stage 2 at Snowy End.

Services
TCT will operate two lines: The U1 metro line and S1 local train.

Survey
A detailed survey of area protections in case BuckarooBanzai et al. need more help understanding exactly where Blockhead can't access

I was testing whether I had proper access to all the technic city train tracks, here are the results.

Starting at telemosaic that comes from spawn I walked around what I'll call the 'city loop' of track.

- No access to the junction just south of that locaton to complete it, or of the station at the telemosaic.

Going north:
Technic city public workshop [944] (BuckarooBanzai) - I need access to this area or a subarea.

Continued unsuccessfully north then east then south all the way around to the point 5091,15,63 where I first have access.

Access continues until the curve that turns west with the sandstone building "Kermit Excavations Main Office", where I can't place stuff at the station.

Access picks up again just west of that station. I will need station access to do a proper job though so signals are in a sensible spot but also for station/stop tracks.

That section only works for about 15 metres before "This area is owned by BuckarooBanzai" again.. Lack of access continues all the way to the junction.

I then went west from the junction on what I'll call the 'S-Bahn'. Access to the west side of the junction was possible. Access continued until the next station at 4652,17,-293. The area for that station is Unnamed trainstation 13071] (BuckarooBanzai). Additional to area access, there is a red discotrain at that station which I would ask you to let me have access to (wagon properties), or remove the train entirely.

Access after the station worked again from 288,1,-21 (going west) and this went all the way to the end succ ssfully :)

TCT was founded on 23 November 2021 after Blockhead volunteered to operate trains in the area after noticing there was a decent amount of right of way already in place. Authority was quickly given to allow him to work on the railway.
TCT was founded on 23 November 2021 after Blockhead volunteered to operate trains in the area after noticing there was a decent amount of right of way already in place. Authority was quickly given to allow him to work on the railway.

Technic City Trains (TCT) is a new railway operator in the greater Technic City area. Its authority is delegated by BuckarooBanzai to Blockhead for the purpose of building railways and stations and operating trains in the area. It has current plans to operate two lines and to co-operate with PRC to ensure any regional connections.

Services
TCT will operate two lines: The U1 metro line and S1 local train.

All station names given are still provisional. Please leave your feedback on the Talk page.

TCT was founded on 23 November 2021 after Blockhead volunteered to operate trains in the area after noticing there was a decent amount of right of way already in place. Authority was quickly given to allow him to work on the railway.
I like trains and dislike teleports - especially travelnet. My first goal on this server is to get the Technic City train system, "Technic City Trains" working with 1 metro line and 1 S-bahn line, since the tracks are already there. The other is to build a railway on Mars.
